With this blogpost I am starting a skitouring series. I would like to share with you the beauty of Switzerland and the beauty of it’s almost national sport – skitouring. As a kind of newbie to this – I started touring a year ago – I hope to give you a grasp of the freedom feeling this sport gives and share with you some great spots for people who have similar endurance and ski level to mine.

This trip details:
Eigeli (car parking) to Glaten or Bodmerstockli peaks
Meters up: 1250
Time: 3h up
Good for the beginners: the way up goes quickly due to the constant tilt and rare flats. Stunning view and even more the way down

Since the snow conditions this year are of rather poor ones, Bisistal is getting even more popular due to it’s microclimate. Ski tourers from all over the Zurich and Lucerne lake areas wake up as early as 5AM just to be there before others and find a good parking spot. That’s not a bad idea – we woke up at 6AM and had to park 1km far from the original parking. It was crowded – about 50+ cars and ~150 people. The valley is big enough though, with many different paths to take, hence it’s still wild and empty.
We did 1250 meters up in only 3 hours, which is less time than usually. Seems like my muscles started to adjust slowly and the past weekends tours made them stronger.
The way down was beautiful and full of powder. It was probably the best tour of this winter so far.
Even walking this 1km back to the car was not a big deal anymore 🙂
